edelbrock cat back,good choice?

can get a edelbrock cat back for my 90 5.0 for 115.00 used for about a year.is this a good choice or should I just go with just a flomaster 80 series crossflow muffler and keep my 2 1/2 pipes?

Re: edelbrock cat back,good choice?

I had an Edelbrock 3" cat-back on my 91' Firebird with the 305 tbi before I sold the car and I liked it. Not the greatest in the flow department I'd imagine, but it also can't be any worse than the 80's Flowmaster. Also, if you're talking about a new 80 series, they're like $90-100 just for the muffler and you found a cat-back for $115, so if it's in good shape and you like the sound, go for it. If I had a choice between the Edelbrock and the 80's series Flowmaster, I'd go Edelbrock. The choice is up to you though, you should look through the exhaust clips in the stickies above.

Re: edelbrock cat back,good choice?

I have an Edelbrock cat-back with RPM series muffler on my car. It's somewhere between stock and something like a flowmaster 40 series as far as how loud it is. Basically you get a mellow rumble, but you get a louder muslecar sound when you get on it. For some reason passengers in the car can hear it louder than I can driving it. I recommend it if you are looking for something mellow. If you want something loud then you should pass on it.

Re: edelbrock cat back,good choice?

ive gota edelbrock sdt setup and love it 100%. I would never put another flowjunker on it again. My car runs so much better and sounds much better. Doesnt sound like an old dumptruck from the 50's lol

i cant wait to get it on my 327 tpi car...

i got a vid of it on my pos 305 with a 3" cat also

That's sounds nice. Is that with headers or just cat and cat-back? My exhaust is stock ahead of the I pipe so mine doesn't sound that aggressive, but is similar in that it has a deep rumble at idle and wakes up under power.

meh magnaflow is great sounding but far more pricey. IMO

but anyways my car has headers/matching y-pipe and 3" l98 cat on a 305.

the rest is a flowmaster 3" catback with the edelbrock sdt muffler in place

Re: edelbrock cat back,good choice?

I also have an edelbrock kit on my formula and like it alot. It looks super clean under the car, fit well and the 2.5 slash kit tips look mean out the back

Heres a in car when I made a pass. Car was stock other than a SLP cold air and the cat back.
