When you remove the cat, you'll need to do something about the pipe that connects to that tube. You'll have to find a way to plug it or remove it al together.

Re: need catalytic converter help

my understanding is that the smog pump simply pumps excess air into the exhaust to let the catalytic converter work more efficiently. so by removing the catalytic converter, there is really no point in having the smog pump anymore...

Re: need catalytic converter help

You live in California. Get any and all thoughts of removing the cat or gutting your cat out of your head. Its completely illegal to drive it on the street that way.

If I can run 12's in the 1/4 mile, make 350+ horsepower to the wheels, get 20+ MPG on the highway, daily drive my car, and pass CA's tough smog test, so can you.

We hot rodders already have a bad name, no need to make it worse.

But if you're making this into a race car, not a street car, then no, removing the cat, or the air pipes, will not affect the computer at all. Only the EGR is monitored by the computer. Oh wait, your EGR system on your TBI engine is affected by the exhaust, so without the cat there, or with a bigger exhaust, several TBI members have reported getting EGR code 32's after removing the cat.
