Heddman for 'D' port heads
I currently have HD 68478 Elite Shorties installed on my '83 Camaro. I'm in the process of swapping the engine over. The new heads have 'D' shaped exhaust ports. Will I need a different hedder to avoid leaks?
Thanks
Jon

It looks like it, the flange MAY cover the top portion of the D shape but you are in the same boat I was when I was hoping the stock exhaust mani's would mate/cover the new motor until I got a new set. Ended up getting a D port manifold. From the pics I've seen of the 68478 I can't really tell.

I'm going to pull one of the headers on Monday and have a look. Maybe hold the 'D' gasket up against the surface. I'm really hoping to retain these headers. What with the engine, new T56, adjustable clutch MC etc, etc. I'm somewhat over my head cost wise. Anyway, I'll post back Monday night.

Re: Heddman for 'D' port heads
Well I chickened out. After talking with a few more people I went ahead and ordered the proper headers from Hedman pn 66479. I called Hedman and the guy said that they are the same as the 68478s that I have now except for where it meets the heads. So the should bolt up to my existing y-pipe. Haven't worked out which bank I'm going to rob to pay for them yet. One thing at a time...
