Header surface temperature
I searched this one upside down... no real answers....
Maybe it's not answerable???
I'm running a 350TBI, ~10.5:1cr, mild performance cam, short tube headers.
My surface temp on the (coated) headers is about 650F at idle.
This SEEMS to me to be ubber hot! I know I'm running rich. And my coolant temp is slow to come up.
The readings were taken with a high end laser spot BTW.
Does the really high surface temp just mean I'm too rich, and work that angle???
Or is that close to normal for anyone else.

Re: Header surface temperature
I actually think thats kinda low - though maybe thats the ceramic coating doing its thing? I would think it should be closer to 1000*f even at a warmed up idle.

Re: Header surface temperature
I'd think so on the coating. I read a test result on a NASCAR car that ran one plain steel header, and one that was coated. The exterior temperature dropped like 300-400F.
I was hoping maybe someone had an actual EGT probe and could tell me what they're running - or possibly somebody had a spot that can read that high?

Re: Header surface temperature
I have a surface temp gun and can check my uncoated headers tonight.
