Hooker 2055's warping
Hey guys,
I went by an exhaust shop today and talked to the guy and was trying to figure out the exhaust i want to run. We've decided that a new 3 inch Y pipe into flow masters is what im going to do. My problem is I mentioned Hooker 2055's and he laughed and said that those headers suck and that they warp over time and causes leaks. He said it wasn't worth my time or money to have him put those headers in when stock manifolds work just the same. Im lost, this isnt true is it? Dont all headers flow better than the stock manifold would. Input much apperciated.

the headers will definatly flow better than your stock boat anchor manifolds.
do you know how much heat and stress it would take to get Steel Headers to bend? Hooker uses high grade steel and everything is mandrel bent. there isn't any stress pushing on them to warp them, and your exhaust isn't going to get hot enough to warp them, unless if you are running a huge big block really really built past the point where its streetable, and you are running it up and down the interstate at max rpms. yeah, your headers may get cherry red with a good strong motor, running near or at redline for a while, but how often do you really stay at redline?
My opinion is that you should find another exhaust shop. if this guy thinks that headers are going to warp, even on a built street motor, driving legally on the streets, or even making 1/4 mile passes, than what kind of quality work is he going to do building your exhaust?

Okay because that's what I thought. I was think about having him doing my cat back then having my friend help me install the headers. Do you know if I could just order the headers from Hooker by themselves or do i have to buy the whole kit. My problem is my car runs dual cats and I keep seeing that they are made for a single 3" cat. Thanks.

No no I don't think I am. But I'm still wondering if there is a place where I get just the headers by themselves and not have to by the Y pipe. If I can I can tell another shop exactly what I want.

As others have mentioned, run from the shop like your pants are on fire.

Re: Hooker 2055's warping
look around on summit.com and see if you can find what you are looking for on there. if you can't find anything, you can always just build your own the way that you want it.
can you weld? cause welding the exhaust would be the best, but if you can't weld, just get everything slip fit and use clamps. just be careful not to tighten the clamps to tight cause if you oval the outer pipe out it will leak.
if you can't find anything you want on summit, or dont want to build your own, then call Holley (owner of hooker headers). here is the number for their custom speed shop, 270 782-2900
