hey there first of all i have a probloem since i do live in california, my question is am I able to get a set of stock exhaust manifolds and cut of the tubing that goes on top for the smog stuff? cause the set of headers i have there either flowtech or dynomax i cant really remeber to be honest they have a tube thing for the o2 sensor but it needs to be drilled out too. so my idea was would i be able to take the smog tubes that go on top of the exhaust manifolds and drill the holes on the headers and weld them in place together? i need some pretty good ideas on what you people thing or what should i do or so, thanks.

Entirely possible to physically be done, but still wouldn't pass an inspector with a good eye, since it wasn't made by someone who paid the state to get the EO #.

In other words.....State didn't get their $ for it, so it ain't legal! Why do you think the SAME headers from a manufacturer, one with SMOG tubes cost $400/and the same ones without cost $100.

 

So your telling me Stephen that is possible to do this? i mean cause i wont have a probloem getting the car smog or so by friend that has a shop, i never asked him if could smog my car the illegal way but i wouldnt want to either, so yeah, thanks for the help dude at least i know whats my next project for my ride, thanks Stephen.

 

if you had a welder it would be pretty easy aslong as you had the headers out of the car.

 

those air tubes will not fit right to your headers. they will have to be going into the top of each header tube. i just found some one who cut their air tubes off and bought them. i did this to my tes headers a few weaks ago

 

The stock A.I.R. tubes are 4 tubes, 1 per exhaust tube.

You could weld the correct nuts to your headers, then thread the stock A.I.R. tubes in, making them appear to have been made that way. And have the ability to just unscrew them, them put in NPT plugs, if you were ever so inclined to do that.

Might be tricky lining up the threads to each section. Not even sure that would be possible. Worst case? Cut & weld.

 

yeah there off the car of course, thats the reason i want to get some at the junckyard so i could play around with.

i agree with Stephen, and just cut and weld, it will be so much easier and alot lest hassle trying to line up the air tubes with the header tubes...

 

i dont think it would be too hard to do. I believe the threads are pipe thread, so you will have to buy threaded parts to weld to the headers.

Just screw the threaded parts to the AIR tubes, locate the tube assembly on the header and weld. Then remove the AIR tubes and drill a hole in the header through the welded nut. Or i suppose you could mark and drill the holes first, but this way its idiot proof.

 

I see you are a California boy so let me tell you straight - you will never pass smog! each set of aftermarket neaders have to have a CARB approval number assigned to it - you personal set of aftermarket make overs dont.

 

if you want to buy some hooker 2055 headers i have a pair that are used would sell them fairly cheap you just need a y pipe mine was crushed by a mechanic. i have lt's now have any use for them. pm me i am in sb

Or just go to Home Depot/Lowe's and buy 1/4" (IIRC) NPT pipe plugs.

 

im telling **** like that dont matter for me and trust me i have my exhaust dump in front of my rear passenger tire and that dont matter either they still do my exhaust there really good friends but they dont do illegal stuff though.

 

i try loking that part number up on the autozone website, and it came up with nothing.

 

yeah i was looking at my stock exhaust and my friends edlecbrock headders and i like how the headders they put the air tubes on thop and the stock manifolds they have them on the side so been on top you get more clearence that way, so thats always good whentrying to change plugs either on the left or right of the car.

 

does any one have a set of air tubes i could bum off?

 

any one out there that could help with some air tubes by any chance?
