97+ vette exhaust on third gen?
Hi all. I'm going to be doing an LSx swap in my 86 TA soon and was just thinking, the sweetest sounding LSx powered cars by far are the vettes, and I was curious if anyone has thought about or seen this swap done yet? I'm sure the mufflers would fit in there nicely. You would just have to fab up a dual exhaust to them. I love the four center pipes and think they would look awesome on a third gen. I know vettes have an x pipe set up too, but the mufflers should make it sound close to a vette.
Anyways, would be cool if there was someone out there that attempted this.

Much of what gives the Corvette its different sound is the placement of the mufflers. Check out the videos of the new camaros with exhaust. They sound very similar to a the same exhaust on a Corvette.
However, unless you are talking about the bullet style mufflers that some C5 systems use, the mufflers won't fit. Plus it will be very hard to run an exhaust tip setup like they have because of our GFX and placement of the gas tank.

Just get yourself a regular catback. It will be damn hard to get the sound you are looking for even if you do get the catback on there. Remember, they were all dual exhausts as well.
Lastly, what sound are you trying to achieve exactly? If its the sound I'm thinking of, its not a $500 catback. Its closer to $1000.

And the 1000$ price is probably correct as well, however I was going to consider a factory vette muffler set up because I'm a big fan of quieter exhausts. I'll have long tubes so it should have a nice rumble to it. Just looking for ideas on "different" set ups than the standard single 3" into dual crossflow muffler that GM should have ditched long ago.

Im sure you can find a stock exhaust for a corvette on craigslist, for cheap.

The fact of it being a dual exhaust is the biggest thing. I plan on doing a dual exhaust with an X-pipe on my car, but figured I'd consider vette mufflers to go for the gold. I can't stand the sound of a single pipe on a V8....just sounds too chaulky and ussually breaks up bad when shifting gears. I am a HUGE exhaust guy and feel that the final touch to a modified engine build is an exhaust to really set it off.

I am not sure where you are going to fit the mufflers on your car. The stock c5 mufflers are pretty large from what I've seen and the inlet and outlet are on the same end of the case. The gases just make a u turn in the muffler and goes out the same side it came in. Plus they won't do much for performance either.
