can you fool your o2 sensor

Is there any way that you guys know to run a header back exhaust system on a car with an o2 sensor? my car is old enough i don't need to take it through emissions. i know that if you have a bad cattalitic converter that the o2 sensor will trip your check engine light. if you remove the cattalitic converter from the system it will also trip the sensor and turn on the check engine light. is there any way to fool that sensor?
