i have a 92' 3.1L too. and i dont think the sound of a v6 should ever reached the ears of anyone lol. mine came with a straight pipe in place of cat, and a flowmaster out rear. i hate the sound of anything other than the melody of a v8 IMOP. so i put a resonator where they had a straight pipe, then put a new stock muffler in the rear. alot better now lol, but still needs more. i kind of want it to be like a creeper so i can sneak around at night without bieng heard. so im prolly puttin one more muffler on it some where in the intermediate pipe. and cone inserst in the tail pipe.

A Flowmasters 80 series sounds pretty good from what I've (literally) heard. I believe (Though not sure) my 2.8 has one and it sounds extremely good for a V6. (Pipe is 2.25)

Skip to the 30 second mark for the car to start. This is my best video of the exhaust because the alternator is so loud now. (Which is that odd ticking like noise.)
If you don't think a 2.8 or 3.1 should be heard then you're crazy.

yea i dono about using a chaberd mufler on a 3rd gen, the exaust layout is all wrong ,
due to the fact that the muffler is so far back, the chambers in the muffler can not resonate through the longer sections of the system. which is creating that loud snaping sound, ............... ehhhhh........
i think that no v6 should be heard compared to a v8, but if you have one please do all that you can to make it sound good, i have a 3.1 lt
and did up my own exhaust with a magnaflow , which does not use chambers , its a straight through design, which means no snapping and popping
