MIG vs TIG for stainless

I have a new stainless Magnaflow Cat to add to my 3" stainless exhaust. Can this be MIG welded or does it require a TIG welder?
Thanks,
Jon

You can use a mig welder, you just need stainless mig wire obviously.

Re: MIG vs TIG for stainless

I was just screwing around the other day, and welded stainless to mild with a mild steel wire in the MIG. I'm sure people will say this is wrong, but the weld looked every bit as nice and strong as if it was a mild to mild weld.

Re: MIG vs TIG for stainless

Thanks for the responses guys. I was looking to find someone to wed in an O2 bung and do some other odds and ends and was less than enthused by the responses I got from the local muffler shops when asked if they could do it - uugh..yeahhh..I guess.

I was able to find a performance exhaust shop (RawTek in Montreal) that did what I needed for next to nothing and confirmed that Mig welding is fine if properly done.
