new single 4" setup dumped
no more catback.
got the 1 7/8 headers on. new 3" y pipe, 3.5" circle track mufflers, howe merge y into a 4" dynomax muffler 6x27".
tucks up higher than my catback with some floor massaging and sounds killer. idle has more thump than what i had, but its better cruising inside the car. not much resonance.
saved 20 pounds from the mufflex kit i had with a magnaflow diesel muffler, heat shields, hangers, etc.

Re: new single 4" setup dumped
thanks!
its been gone for a while now, despite whats said about getting rid of it.
i plan on putting an anti roll bar on the car soon. ive been leaning towards the TRZ setup, which is an upper brace, panhard, and anti roll in one.
its supposed to be lighter than all of the factory stuff it replaces.
panhard, upper, and sway bar/brackets, etc....
its just sooooo pricey!

fuel system is out of the car right now. will have vids up soon!
this is a pic when they were built.
the heat hides the different colors in tubing. they are all the same tone.
dude that built them did a NICE job.
doubt they will clear a stock k member, but these were built for drag setup.

Awesome man, very nice. Definately post a clip when you can. Is that the ultraflo round muffler? I had the 16" version and found it very loud but good sounding on my 383 2 years ago. I was thinking of that 27" version but couldnt fit it under the car with the way my y pipe was made.
Whats the circle track mufflers for? Making sure you muffle it as much as you can?
Took my upper track bar off too and havent noticed much of a difference with it gone

you initially gave me the idea when we were posting in a thread a year or so ago.
i beat up the floorpan area, but you cant tell inside or out really.
think i should have went with a borla or the dynatech now, so it would have more clack, than the deep rumble.
i havent heard a can muffler sound like this. with hardly any piping, and being on a pretty stout motor, maybe thats what any muffler is going to sound like.
this has more of a deep, flowmaster tone, without the drone, rather than the normal sound of this type muffler.
i went with the circle track mufflers to keep as much noise down as i could. i drive the car and it needs to be sane for on the street.
at idle, the catback was much better to me. couldnt hear the motor run in the car. this setup sounds like everyone elses car now at idle, but it is much better going down the road.
few guys had told me all the bends in a catback and compression would cause noise in the cabin. i would have thought for sure this dumped setup would be louder in the car.
wish i still had the catback at idle.
my problem is i want the sound quality of a turbo setup, without the turbo.

what do you expect to gain (ET wise) from the new exhaust?

Re: new single 4" setup dumped
put the nitrous back on the car. i have not had it on with this motor setup. hoping to go some 5's 1/8 mile on a small shot. prolly all the converter will like anyway!
any shots? id love to see them. always thinking of new ideas.
i picked up .04 and a lil mph. now i am out of fuel.
the small tube headers must have been really borderline. i knew i was in need of upgrading anyway.
i went 4 6.30's at 108.9x the weekend before. 48 degrees, track temp was 64. a/f was 13.0-13.3 throughout the run.
the next week car went 6.265 at 109.15. 53 degrees 64 degree track temp, and the wind was blowing in the wrong direction.
after making a pass in the 14.0 range, i upped the fuel pressure to 8psi, then 9psi. i put 5 number higher jet in it just as a band aid. i was trying to get fuel to it. ended up going a 6.273 at 109.23. my car always works, and is very consistant, so its the best back to back i could do.
dont know if i will get the weather like that again. i should have went 24's at a 109.5x.
going to try and get back out this weekend. got the fuel pump, just need to get it on. no time!

Still have the 4" inlet outlet dynatech split flo if you want to try it. I warn you its loud
Glad you like the setup tho, i hope you get a sound clip so we can hear it.

Re: new single 4" setup dumped
Naw, I had the dynatech and it was RIDICULOUS. Idle was noisy, much louder than the ultraflo but the ultraflo was also fairly loud. Both have about the same sound at idle. WOT sounded amazing with the dynatech, better than the ultraflo i think but it was race car loud. I needed to tone it down.

i found the company that makes them for dynatech online. its another circle track outfit.
they offer the muffler with an 18" case!! i ALMOST went with it.

Re: new single 4" setup dumped
i had the 14 long case x 7x5 oval with 4" inlet/outlet. It sounds amazing at WOT but just tooo loud for me
Not sure if the sound was due to the mid plate that runs down the core of the muffler or not, but i was tempted to fab up my own midplate and weld it in the center of my ultraflo to see if it made a similar sound but less volume. I never did it so i'll never know

ive seen most of your vids, but its hard to get a realization from that.
the guy from extreme mufflers said he could leave it out, as they build all of the mufflers in house. i asked him about sound and he said it didnt make much difference, but did drop the db to meet noise levels at tracks.

Re: new single 4" setup dumped
It was loud everywhere. I could not tame that 11:1 383 motor. My neighbor is state cop and he's told me to quiet it down. So i got the ultraflo.
I've done a startup and idle/mild rev with open y pipe, then slipped on the splitflow and idled/mild rev with that. Then took off the splitflow and put on the Ultraflo round. There was a clear difference in the ultraflo muffler. It was noticeably more quiet, but still louder than I wanted the car to be. It was the best I was gonna do without adding cats or something.
I had a dB meter borrowed from my dad's work place and on a cold start about 3 ft from tail pipes, it idled around 90 dB..... 80's when warm and rpms dropped. Creeping up the hill from the house at 15-20 mph, it was 74 dB from about 30 yards away.

Re: new single 4" setup dumped
well pooh! thanks for the info.
ive got a pump on the car, but still with small fuel lines.
going to the track today to see what shell do.
ill try and get some idle shots, and maybe a track pass up so you can hear whats going on with the pipes.

not the best video, but get an idea.
i revved it up a few times so you can hear it.
turndown faces out the passenger side.

all the noise in the 1st pass is that elcamino and the car behind me in staging.
