Any tips on exhaust manifold removal??

I worked tonight on getting the passenger side out. I grew tired of the echaust leak. 89 350 with stock manifold and AIR.
Can I loosen up th eAC stuff without getting hit with freon? I mean to unscrew some of the brackets so it will move. I got the first three out fairly easy so I now have the back three left. Can I even get them from above or do I have to get them from below?
Thanks

The best way is to remove the a/c hoses, then tank, then top cover of a/c box then a/c core, then remove the few bolts under the edge of the carpet on the interior side, remove box and you have plenty of room, just did this last week on my 89 305 (put shorty headers on)
fairly simple, it took me 3 days to figure out how to remove the manifold from the passenger side.

hope this helps.

Great. I have no way of depressurizing the AC system.

Re: Any tips on exhaust manifold removal??

I just removed my passenger exhaust manifold and did not remove any AC components except the brackets attached to the manifold bolt studs. I was able to remove all the bolts except the back one from the top. The hardest one by far was the back bolt. I couldn't remove the factory lock tab (couldn't even see it from any angle). Finally purchased a set of Grip Tite sockets at Sears and used the 15mm one from underneath the car. It was large enough to fit over the bolt and the lock tab and was able to break the bolt loose. I did damage the lock tab in the process. It took some effort to remove the manifold from the top - it was a fighter!

Good Luck!

I ended up deciding on deleting the AC. I haven't used it but maybe once in the 2.5 years I have owned the car so it will not be missed. How did you reconnect the new manifold to the pipe? The manifold I removed looked to be in good shape. I think my leak was at the donut but the old manifold was rusted up of course. The dorman kit I used came with a donut that looks to be too thin. Without the A/C stuff I changed the plugs in 10 minutes. lol

Re: Any tips on exhaust manifold removal??

I'm putting headers on my car so I wasn't worried about re-inserting the manifold. No wonder you are removing the AC box! The original factory install of the manifolds was obviously on the engine before it was fitted to the car.
I noticed a cast iron spacer on one of my manifolds but no donuts.
Bet of luck!
