Loud Exhaust

My 1985 camaro has recently gotten noticably louder and the exhaust smells more like gasoline. I checked the muffler for holes and cracks and didn't see any. Any ideas about what is wrong?

Check your cat out. I bet the honeycomb has started to bust up & blow out.

If the cat has never been replaced, it 25 years old or so. Probably time for replacement.
