newb question...

So I wanted to do an exhaust on my '83 Trans Am and thought the exhaust was the same on all 82-92, but I'm not totally sure. I looked under the car this morning and there are two small mufflers side-by-side and I've never seen this kind of set-up before. I thought they all came with the 1-in, 2-out style muffler like I ordered.

Re: newb question...

Ok, good. Also, it seems like it comes to the mufflers from the driver's side of the car...??? I'm gonna go take a pic and post it in a few minutes.

Re: newb question...

Well this is interesting...I'm gonna have get under the car and look how it's routed, but I've never seen a set-up like this before. Here's some pics. See for yourself and let me know if this is a stock set-up.

And I was wrong about it connecting on the driver's side...that's what it looked like when I looked under the car last.

Re: newb question...

That's factory. It was the exhaust on the 82-84 CFI cars, possibly the HO cars as well but that I'm not sure of.

Re: newb question...

was that style exhaust only on Cali cars? I have never seen so many mufflers in my life, and i worked at an exhaust shop for a summer right out of WyoTech

Re: newb question...

I don't know, but they're gone...my friend sawed them off at the pipe between the mufflers, so there's just two pipes heading toward the middle of the rear. So for now, it's just the manifolds and the cat. Sounds like **** IMO, but it sounds better than it did. Sunday I'm putting on an Edelbrock SDT muffler and replacing the cat with a 20" Magnaflow resonator. Should sound MUCH better with that setup.

Re: newb question...

Lastnight I no longer have 2.25" piping...my friend and I went to O'Riellys and picked up a 3" mandrel bent piping from some diesel truck and pieced an exhaust together. There's a little part he couldn't get the welder in, but he said he can get some stuff that will cover the spot...so it sounds really good, but it has an exhaust leak. LoL!
