Restriction?
Restriction?
My setup hooker shortys, 2.5 y into single, flowtech muffler no cat. Was suposed to be 3" but that's what I get for dropping it off to be done over the weekend and not watching it be done. it was done by a guy I know who cut me a deal, so I can't really complain.
Ok here is my prob. Been working under my TA latly and noticed the exhaust has a spot that might be hurting it. Anyways it goes from 2.5" too 3" for two-three feet straight then back down too 2.5", spot in between the trans n diff. So basically from what I've read this is bad. I supose the gas is expanding and cooling off in this section then craming back down or w/e. Kinda like a glasspak w/o the glass(so I kinda have two mufflers). Anyways I was thinking of cutting this section out and replacing with an equal size(prob flange it so i can make sure the in/out is smooth).
When I 1st noticed it I saw he welding the smaller in the larger and thought I should cut the rear and replace that part with something that flares down, cause I almost bet he just stuck a inch or so in and welded. Like the time i had to cut excess pipe that went past the exhaust flange into the header flange.
Yup I know why do I use the guy then, well you should see the other muffler shops around here. They norm do great work, just sometimes you gotta watch em.
Also thought about useing wrap too keep that spot from cooling as much, yah it will rot faster.

Re: Restriction?
I had a similar problem. When I had the exhaust done on my car, we agreed on 2.5" piping all the way back. I didn't realize it was 2.25" pipe until a while after, but always though it looked a little small...
I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you want though, either replace the 2.5" with 3" pipe (the 2.5" will be fine for the Y pipe), or just replace that section of pipe with 2.5".

Yah I'm gonna replce the 3" section with 2.5" it's bout 2 feet striaght so should be easy. Far as my Y-pipe, only thing i can do is clean up the collectors and the Y some. Well it's more like a T. My drivers side pipe goes round front and runs under my pass side headers and the pipe from header to that pipe dumps straight down almost. My entire exhaust is 2.5" except that two foot section of 3" and it's in the cat location, I don't know why i was thinking it was farther back.
Just gonna wrap my headers T-pipe too help the flow and when it rots off replace it with some long tubes I got and duels too the rearend, like i shoulda in the 1st place.
Shortys were on the car long tubes i got are new from a diff project car that i ended up being a parts car. Being lazy, always comes back to huant yah.
FYI I herd the same as I've read many others shops don't want too run duels on these cars because of driver side clearance and my car sits low so i listened. But now I've herd of oval pipe. Might be worth the extra cost for clearance.
