H pipe on a third gen????

I was just reading an article in either GM High Tech or Camaro Performers on this maroon IROC that had long tube headers and an H pipe. I was wondering which H pipe that guy used?

Re: H pipe on a third gen????

Most likely custom. 3rd gens are very tight down low and classic routing from off-the-shelf parts rarely fits and when it does it drags on everything

Re: H pipe on a third gen????

Just wondering how a H-pipe would benefit a 3rd gen if you are running a Y-pipe?

An H-pipe or a X-pipe is for true dual exhaust. A Y-pipe is for running a single pipe back. You can run one or the other, not both.

you could run a y-pipe after the h-pipe to convert back to a single

or a y-pipe to a h-pipe and back to a y-pipe so you can say you have a h-pipe

But if your going through all that trouble you might as well throw an X-pipe in there somewhere

Every "test" I've seen with an "H" or "X" pipe involved long tubes and full dual exhaust.

An "H" or "X" pipe allows both banks to benefit from both halves of a dual exhaust system. Obviously, if your exhaust otherwise merges into one, it's worthless.

A cut-out is an admission that you chose your muffler based on some criteria other than flow capacity.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but here's a few shots of over the axle routing. I used 2.5" tubing and a mig welder (Lincoln Electric Pro-Mig 140). There is more pictures of the install at this thread https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/exha...-own-true.html There is also video of what it sounds like at my cardomain.

I don't mind but be patient when building it. Get yourself a bunch of 90deg and 45deg bends and about 13ft of straight pipe. I bought out all the 2.5" straight pipe I could find at my local auto parts stores.

Thats sexy, looks like a tight but clean fit. Was it a hassle? or simple?

It was somewhat of a hassle when I started it but got easier as I went along. The hardest part was routing it over the axle.

From the pics it definitely looked like a PITA to get it around the axle

I really have to say man it looks great, does it sound good?

Re: H pipe on a third gen????

Not exactly a H pipe or X pipe but similar. It's a 3" -> 2.75" from the flange. Going to eb 2x 2.75" down stream also. I may do a side exit/boom tube but not 100% sure yet. I did a test fit and 2x2.75" will fit over my Fays2 rear.....it's a tight squeeze but doable.

That is sweeet. I also like how you did the Ovalized pipe, very nice. Now I know what to do with some left over stock and pipe. Thanks

I have "total flow" mufflers, cheaper replica of super 10s... I love the sound (long tubes, duals, h-pipe, ls1 with 228/232 cam)
