Hooker headers and my 86 Trans AM??

Any one use these Hooker Headers on their Trans Am? Just wondering how they fit and the quality of them. Here's a link to them. I also plan on putting in a 383 this coming winter so would these headers work with a 383? Engine in the car now is the stock 307 5spd. Thanks for the help.

A would show several have.

My advice is consider the 2055HKR's. By the time you get the 2460's installed, you will have has much or more invested than you would with the 2055's.

The 2460's are $385 and Ceramic Coated while the 2055's are $469 and painted.
EDIT, just noticed a y-pipe is included with the 2055's. the y pipe alone for the 2460 is now $250 or thereabouts.

I have the Ceramaic Coated 2460's with the y-pipe and they are decent but I don't know how well they will flow with a nice flowing 383.

I will tell you this, changing plugs on a straight plug head is a pain. Had to cut about a 1/4" off of the spark plug socket to get it on plugs 5 and 7.

The 2460 y-pipe is not adequate for a 350, let alone a 383, without modification. The 2055 y-pipe is the best off-the-shelf single available for our cars (dual cat pipes are the only thing short of custom y-pipe that comes close).

2460's are made from a thicker gauge tubing, so the ID is actually smaller than 2055's (although both are called 1-5/8" primary - that's an OD measurement).

The main "nit" I have with 2055's is the small opening at the collector ball flange. My recommendation (and what I did) is get everything mated up, then drop the y-pipe and open up the collector side of the ball flange to match the y-pipe opening. If you run them for awhile after install, you can use the carbon deposits to guide you how far and where to open them up.

Re: Hooker headers and my 86 Trans AM??

Thanks for the input guys! I don't have to worry about a Y pipe as my friend and the owner of the exhaust shop I go to makes his own Y pipes for these cars and has been for many years now. He doesn't really care for any of the Y pipes on the market and would rather build it himself and make it flow better. My car will have no emissions on it (yes I know it's illegal). Can you get the 2055's without those little emissions pipes?

No, the 2055's have the A.I.R. tubes. You can cut them off and weld the hole shut if you like.
