Re: Magnaflow OR Hooker Cat-back
Its a matter of opinion. what you personally like for sound. I have a hooker aerochamber catback with hooker shortys. Sounds incredible on my 383. The fit was perfect. Hanger locations were perfect as well. I also have a magnaflow cat.

It's pretty much down to the looks. I like the looks of the big magnaflow tips but the hooker duals are nice too. So hard to pick!

I have no experience with Magnaflow. That said, I like the Hooker because at idle and cruise you can listen to music or carry on a conversation, but at WOT the snarl is nasty.

Re: Magnaflow OR Hooker Cat-back
I'm with Badass355. I have a hooker, never had the magnaflow, but next time I probably will fork over the extra cash just because the magnaflow is stainless. My hooker has some rust on it, and I dont even drive the car in the winter!
Really though I dont think you can go wrong either way.

Re: Magnaflow OR Hooker Cat-back
I searched all over and the prices were all within 20 bucks. The hooker system has such thick walled pipe that i cant imagine it rusting away in my lifetime. Maybe if you drove it in salty conditions. Cant see that happening.

The Magnaflow exhaust is one of the lowest sounding rumbles of an exhaust that I've heard around. Was under my car and my y-pipe looks like crap after a year and the cat back is nice and shiny perfect.

man ever since i put a aero chamber on my tahoe i wont go back. If they made an aero chamber in a 4 i would have gotten that instead of the spintech i just bought. Hookers sound amazing. I just painted mine with engine enamal. And my friend bought a hooker that was stainlessfor his truck. Do they not makeone for us?

Re: Magnaflow OR Hooker Cat-back
I only run Hooker stuff, as for the pipe just clean it and paint it all with high temp paint and it'll last for a very long time.
This is just my personal opinion but Magnaflows always sound like an oversized glasspack to me.

Re: Magnaflow OR Hooker Cat-back
I vote Hooker. Flows good, sounds good, its good.
I found a Hooker slip fit muffler that coudl replace my SLP 2otL muffler and STILL give me 2 on the left. But would sound wicked. Same for the Borla XR-1.

is the installation of a catback as easy as I imagine it is? after putting in headers this should be a cakewalk

I went with the Magnaflow. Cost was one factor, ease of installation the other. Definitely looks impessive and sounds good too!

Re: Magnaflow OR Hooker Cat-back
Probably a couple hours tops! Hardest part was getting the old stuff out. Be sure to tighten the clamps well and get the hoop over the rear end centered so it doesn't rub on the rear end or panhard bar. I put in new hangers to eliminate the slop from the old ones.

I have the hooker cat-back also. Everything lined up perfect, had to modify at the cat becasu I have a 3" high flow. I am very happy with it and can't wait to wake it up more with a new y pipe and headers.

I have a 3" catback with hooker aero chamber and gutted cat. It sounds good. Not obnoxiously loud but sounds real good at WOT. I hear the Aerochamber mufflers get louder over time.

Re: Magnaflow OR Hooker Cat-back
Get the GMMG setup. You will not be disappointed.
It's pretty spendy, but you should be able to install it yourself pretty easily, and it's the best sound you'll ever get on your Camaro. It sounds frickin' sweet.
I love the sound clips here:
http://www.gmmginc.net/Exhaust/index.php
If you don't want to pay for the gmmg, then get the Magnaflow Stainless, even though it won't sound as good, in my opinion.

Re: Magnaflow OR Hooker Cat-back
I like some of their systems, but didn't like the ones for SBC's. Just seemed all noise and no tone, though nowhere near as bad as a Loudmouth, which I think is the most obnoxious exhaust system out there, if it can even be called an exhaust.
I'm not a fan of big quad 4" tips either, or even dual 3" tips. I prefer the simple 2.5" dual pips on the left side of my car. Its quiet at idle, has a mild tone, but overall isn't loud. Sleeper is the term. Prefer the aerochamber cat-back's sound though over my 2otL.
Although, all of the above is personal preference. And I prefer NOT getting pulled over for loud exhausts. I have a cut-out that I can open at the track if I want it.
