New Headers

Guys I'm throwing on a set of longtubes (headman I believe) and I need some thoughts and help on the A/C deleting process and the A.I.R/smog delete process. Can I run a delete pulley for the a/c and a different length belt to get rid of the a.i.r? And can I remove the A/C myself? Lastly... Thoughts on a y-pipe from the longtubes to my borla catback? Thanks

Re: New Headers

Serp system yes on the belt routing and delete pulley - no need for a AIR pump delete pulley.

Re: New Headers

May I ask why your deleting the AC? With the AC off its taking no more power from the motor than the delete pulley will.

Re: New Headers

Thats not what I understood? I understood that removing the A/C compressor made a massive difference, as much as 20hp at the wheels with the 350TPI (which I have). I understand removing the AIR system isn't a crazy gain, but the lost drag helps and it makes changing headers and spark plugs WORLDS easier. Can anyone else chime in?

Re: New Headers

there is a tech article on this site to show how to run a belt to delete the smog pump. Also shows what belt to use. Go to the home page and click on "Tech Articles"

The compressor doesnt run all the time. The pulley is clutch activated. There is ~ the same hp loss to turn it when it is off then it is to turn a delete pulley. Deleting the A/C can give some more room and removes some weight from the front of the car, but not enough for you to notice. It is not really any harder to do any routine maintenance with the ac in the car. Previous owner in my car had removed everything. I reinstalled it. I like my AC. The only way I would delete it is if I was running a pure drag car.

Spark plugs arent hard anyways to change. Definately not going to make a world of difference. Headers make it pretty simple.

Keep the A/C. When you want all the power you can get, make sure the switch is off. Its that simple.

Oh and here is a link to the belt change. https://www.thirdgen.org/serpentine

Re: New Headers

Hey I appreciate that a ton. I know the weight saving is nice but if its not going to make a power difference, there is no real reason to ditch it. That also saves me a delete pulley

Re: New Headers

You will appreciate keeping your ac on those warm days. I wish the previous owner of my ride didn't rip everything out, it's expensive to replace such items.

Re: New Headers

I bet it is expensive to replace. At very minimum, my system needs a recharge. But honestly with t-tops its not on my high list of priorities
