Can I skip the exhaust converter hangar?
Hi...
I have just bought a completely new exhaust system from engine and all the way back. I have a 1987 Camaro with a 305 TPI engine.
I went with Hooker 2055 Headers, a Catco 9118 High flow cat-converter and a Magnaflow cat-back exhaust system.
I can't get the stock bracket which holds the converter in place to fit.
The bracket that goes from the transmission tail to the converter flange.
But I don't think that bracket it nescessary anymore because the new system is so stiff and fast from before. There is absolutely no flexing at all. The y-pipe is sitting very tight and the catalytic converter is hanging on that y-pipe very tight. The magnaflow exhaust hook up very nice also.
You see, I am going on holiday tomorrow and will be driving a lot next week so I need the car to be finished. Therefor my question is can I run the car without this hangar?..I have driven a couple of houndred miles around where I live without any troubles. Just need to be sure that I don't do anything stupid here..

I have almost the same exhaust setup as you do. My old cat hanger was pretty much destroyed and when I first was bolting the new exhaust up I didn't use the hanger because like you said its pretty solid without it. That being said, I still did what was described in this thread because I would rather not take the chance of dropping my exhaust on the road.
