Cherry Bomb

Am I able to put on a cherry bomb glasspack muffler on my '86 Trans Am but still have 2 pipes coming out the rear of the car? If so, how would I do this?

with a splitter, factory they all had fake dual exhaust.

GM was to cheap to install 2 cats.

There are MANY mufflers out there specifically designed to be crossflow... ie, one pipe in, two pipes out, and the exit pipes are on opposite sides. Flowmaster 80 is the probably the most prevalent.

Otherwise you coudl just weld up a Y junction and run a separate pipe the other side.

But I'd suggest you get a crossflow muffler.

Re: Cherry Bomb

Yeah, I already have a Flowmaster exhaust system installed. But I'd really just like to have the classic Cherry Bombs on without running them out the sides.

Re: Cherry Bomb

A cheap exhaust tip can be used as a splitter.

All I run are classic CB's on my cars.

But have learned they sound the best as close to the engine as possiable.
Then with a full length tail pipe. if they just dump its sounds awful.

82-85 305/5.0 V8 Dual Exhaust Systems (LG4/LU5) had a single cat which went into an intermediate pipe with two exhaust pipes which in turn went to two mufflers (one on each side of the car), both with a tail pipe. Not true duals, but.... My 85 isn't so equipped.

Some later models were equipped with dual cats, but a single intermediate pipe.
