UGH when I step on it. HELP!

1983 305 CrossFire...

ok guys, here's what i have done thus far. I have run a true dual exhaust system from the heads back, removed the cat, but retained the factory dual resonator muffler cross overish type setup (lol, not sure what to call it).

heres a question...without the cat does the egr serve any purpose? then that leads me to the followup question of maybe i should simply remove the smog control stuff (may articles about this on here). over a year ago a tech stuffed a bolt in the hose that fed the EGR telling me the car didnt need it and it was sticking anyway which was causing my backfiring (electronic ignition module was bad) so after finding that that was not an issue i pulled out the bolt and plugged it back in. all ran well. however the car will get stuck in high idle when i start it (idle in gear is where it should be ~700-800rpm) and when i step on it it says UGH and then goes. bad EGR afterall? i replaced wiring harness to TPS and should probably replace the TPS itself (just replacing the wiring let it idle at the 700-800 rather than the 1200-1500 it was prior).

i keep thinking i should bypass the smog pump and remove the EGR or at least plug the EGR off to see if that helps at all thereby telling me if its failing. I did put a new lid on with the injetor pods bored out which made a difference, but i keep thinking that the high idle in Park or the UGH is emission related.

any thoughts???
