86' Firebird Exhaust Problem
I have a 1986 Firebird V8. i took the stock muffler off just to see how loud it would be, and it didn't make any difference at all. so later i cut the pipe right in front of the cat, planing to put exhaust on it, and it sounded like an old farm truck. so today i had the cat replaced, and i put a Flowmaster 40 series muffler(their loudest muffler) on it, and its back to pretty much stock sound
. kinda frustrating spending the money and getting no results
does anyone know what might be going wrong and how to fix it?? Thanx Joined: Aug 2006

Re: 86' Firebird Exhaust Problem
did you replace the pipe from teh cat to the muffler? sounds like it clogged, or crushed or something screwy. Simply taking the muffler off should have made the car stupid loud sounding, not in a good way. For that matter my little v6 car is pretty darn loud when the intermediate pipe comes apart on the highway.....
86' Firebird Catalytic Converter removal question??
I removed my Catalytic Converter and now my car sounds kinda weird or something is happening. Since my converter is gone, is this sending a different message to the car's computer? If so, what changes do I need to make, in order to have my car sound better and run better? Do I need to reinstall the converter? A good answer needs to come my way.

@//<86TA>\\ i didn't replace that pipe, and never thought about that but good thought i'll have to look into that, thanks.
@lighthorseozzy1 and if the car is an '86 bird, you have an o2 censor and your car wont run right without the proper reading so you need to have it hooked up again with the same one or a performance cat, which ever you prefer. and as for sound you can do it alot of different ways, just depends on what your budget is and/or what you can do yourself.
