exhaust manifold help
I bought aftermarket manifolds for a 305 camaro, I think I told the guy 87 or 88 because he needed a year. They are for my s10 with a 350 in it. The drivers side manifold came with a doughnut(thats what ive always called it) on the flange going to the y pipe. The passenger side just has a flat flange with no doughnut. Ive went to all the local parts stores, and have searched everywhere. The only place that had anything was napa, and it was for a 90 camaro. I got the doughnut from them and am pretty sure its the wrong one. On the other exhaust manifolds I have installed, the doughnut sits in the exhaust manifold, but the one I bought doesnt, it just sits on the flange. Does the passenger side not have a doughnut from ther factory? Ill post pics to make this easier to understand, because Im sure I have made it confusing.
Thanks for any help!

Re: exhaust manifold help
Depending on the application the manifolds are for, the passenger side would have bolted to the EFE valve.

Re: exhaust manifold help
91dime, is this the exhaust flange piece that you're asking about? This piece came off of my 89 IROC L98 passenger side exhaust manifold. Hope this helps!
Re: exhaust manifold help
Does anyone bother looking around a bit before they create a new thread?
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/exha...-question.html
As mentioned the passengers side manifold was designed to mate up to a flapper valve. EFI cars have the spacer (pictured above and in the thread I linked to) which is basically the valve without the flapper. Walker 31533 is a typical exhaust donut that Walker lists as a replacement for the stock spacer. It's not an exact replacement, but it'll usually get the job done.

Re: exhaust manifold help
I searched for awhile before creating a new thread, I guess the terms I was using were not correct, sorry. I purchased the Wagner 31533, but like you said in the thread you posted it's just flat and sits on the manifold. I though about using a piece of tubing to go inside the walker flange and the manifold so it would be aligned correctly. I do not want to cut any corners at all, I want this to be done right.
So the spacer has a tapered end for the y pipe to sit up against? I've never seem these Avalible at any parts stores so I'll probably need to get one from the scrap yard? Would any of you guys have one you would sell? With or without the valve. I'll search in the forsale section on here.
Thanks alot for the help guys I really appreciate it!

Re: exhaust manifold help
Technically the right way to do it would be to find the cast iron spacer... It's just flat on the side that faces the manifold, and tapered on the Y-pipe end. You might try a dealer, but chances are you'll need to find a used source.
Walker and Fel-pro both offer exhaust donuts. Some of them have a tube pressed into the donut to align it with the manifold. Measure the outlet size of your manifold and dig through the box of donuts at your local parts store and you might find one that will fit, but it'll still be much thinner then the real spacer.

I found this on eBay for a malibu. It looks like it's a 2 bolt flange. Some of the ones I've seen are 3 bolt. Any way to tell if this would work?

Re: exhaust manifold help
The only potential catch is if it's for low output or high output manifolds. The spacer I posted pics of in the other thread, is marked HO. I'd expect the non-HO version to be about a 1/4" smaller in diameter. Either should bolt up fine, but the smaller one would be a slight restriction.
If you want to spend $50, I'll go dig through the garage and find you one that's already had the flapper knocked out of it and the vacuum canister removed. Let me know. Every GM car from the early 80's on with a SBC and car manifolds will have either the flapper valve or the spacer. $50 is highway robbery.
