HEADERS NOT FOR STREET USE
Every set of headers I look at says "not legal for street use". Does this mean the exhaust must be modified? or totally not legal no matter what? I want to put some cheap flowtech headers and hook them up to the stock y pipe and cat. Is there going to be an emissions issue? How do I get a set of headers for street use? I still have the stock 305 collectors on my 350 transplant. I want better airflow, but need it to pass inspection as well. Thank God I don't live in California.

To be 100% Environmental Protection Agency legal (the federal guys. even if your state doesnt care you're still under their jurisdiction, though its unlikely youd ever encounter them), you need ones with the air tubes going into them forthe smog pump, and also your thermo-whatever air cleaner, which needs that foil tube going to the thing on the drivers side. Only ones I know with that are the awful edelbrocks which I have. Lots of them have the air tubes.
I dont know about texas, but here and a lot of other states, if your car is older than 25 they wont go down the checklist of what smog parts it should have to pass inspection. Your state dmv web site should have an outline of the inspection and whats required for what years.
Edit: Thermostatic like I thought. Heres the best picture I could find pointing it out http://www.telusplanet.net/public/dj...ssing_tube.JPG Not many headers have a connection for it.

Hooker 2055's are the best smot legal headers you can get. If you don't care about smog...well, then take your pick and go for it!
