doing headers on stock l98 CA model 89 formula/help :(

I have a small exhaust leak on my 89 formula. So i figure mind as well buy some headers and do that. It has 2 cats and all the cali emissions bs. Im wondering what kind of problems this will pose to doing headers. I was looking at summit and I was thinking of just buying their brand shorty headers 1.5" primary 2.5" collector to save some money or maybe hedmen shorty 3' collector. Anyway to pull out all that cal emissions junk ? help is really appreciated!! id like to order the parts on friday(yay payday). Thank you everyone!

If you live in Ca it all needs to stay on, its doesnt really cost much power if any at all running a good cat.

Well I don't think they make shorty y pipes that will fit dual cats. You might have to fab one out of the stock one.

I live in Nevada so i dont have to keep the junk. So id have to get rid of the dual cats? Or would I have to use full length headers? I mean Id almost love to just get rid of both cats all together... Lol

Yeah just toss the dual cats, buy some shorties and the y pipe, or long tubes if you want, (but I have heard fitment is an issue), I have the hedman 68470s and y pipe and I would have to say that is the best way to go, the y pipe runs along the stock location and is easy to fit a cat ,, but that's just my

Thanks, ive decided when i get the cash im just going to scrap the entire exhaust. Since the muffler is only a year old ill reuse it and doing the exhaust shouldn't cost to much and go with a single cat. Thanks for all the replys and help

A few different vendors offer headers for dual cats. Summit headers are the same as Flowtech headers. You'll spend as much making them work and you'll go slower then if you just buy a set of headers/pipes that will work with what you've got. Shop around a bit and spend wisely. Those dual converters aren't to improve emissions, they're to improve power output, but if you'd rather trade power for dollars kept in your pocket you could go to a single cat setup.
