Looking for *stock* exhaust hanger pics by trans... EDIT-ANYONE WITH DUAL CAT PICS?
I did a search but couldnt find what I'm looking for....
This is NOT one of my "smarter" moves when putting my car together. Orginally my car HAD 5 speed in it and I decided to go with a 6 speed. Long story short the 6 speed conversion cost me way too much money and 3/4 of the way through I just gave up due to running outta cash. Fast foward to now I'm ready to get back to it but I have no idea how the exhaust is held up. I know there's brakets (which I still have) that bolt up around by the tail of the trans but I looked at them and I can't figure out how they bolt up. I don't even think you can use the brackets anymore just due to the different styles of transmissions.
If possible can somebody post pics of what the stock exhaust system looks like (around by the tail of the trans) OR can someone post pics of what they did to hold the exhaust pipe up there WITH a 6 speed trans?? I'm contracting the work out to somebody else but I'm trying to be nice and give him pics so he has an idea of how it is held up.
Thanks in advance..
Dan

I don't have pics; but I'll give you a verbal.
The trans side is a piece of sheet metal with the edge bent at a 90°. THe short leg goes under the 2 torque arm mount nuts, that go on the long stud and bolt that go all the way through the ext hsg. It has a sort of L-shaped section at the top that sticks out toward the exhaust. The exhaust side clamps to the back of the cat by means that vary by model (mine, L69, went under the inner 2 of the 4-bolt flange). Yerbasic piece of rubber hooks the exh side to the trans side. I actually made that by cutting a piece out of the sidewall of a tire once, because you can't get that assembly any more; and the metal parts were still good so I drilled out the rivets and bolted in the tire piece.
The T-56 one is different. It uses a flat bar on the exh side, and the trans side has a rubber bushing with a slot, encircled by metal. Kind of the same principle as the TA mount. The bar slides into that, front to rear. The trans side bolts to the trans by the same TA hardware as the T-5 one.
When I swapped in a T-56, I made a suitable piece, out of Home Depot strip stock or some such, for the exh side (stock, it must have been part of the 4th gen I-pipe I would guess) and I have that held to the top of the I-pipe with a U-bolt. Slides right into the stock T-56 trans bracket just like it was meant to. Might weld it to the I-pipe someday, prolly won't ever get a round tuit though.

Gee, that pic looks AWFUL familiar... looks EXACTLY like mine used to, when I was tearing up T-5s every couple of weeks.
Except, my car is silver, rather than red. Mine even had that 2-pc X-member.

Thanks yoshirocks702.. yeah that pic helps to some degree. My car came with dual cats and when I got the cats (many many years ago) I wanted to keep the car stock for the most part. So in a perfect world if someone posted a pic with dual cats that would be better. At the end of the day beggers can't be choosers so I'll take what I can get. I just want to give the guy who's working on my car a pic so he can have SOME idea of how the cat should be hanged.
