anyone have problems w/magnaflow cats?

anyone have problems w/magnaflow cats?

i just put on magnaflows dual cat direct fit set up on my 89 GTA less than three weeks ago and one of the cats has came apart inside. it sounds like i have several rods knocking. i check everything and nothing is touching, if i bang on the inner cat it rattles something fierce. any one delt with with magnaflow on getting something replace?

well i guess it could have been defective/not made properly to make it come apart sooner. Why did you change it? because your old converter was bad? or was it to pass smog? A poor running engine that has a lot of unburnt fuel can burn out a cat because the fuel is making it run really hot and damaging it. If you read the warranty card it will state that on there. So does the engine run really well? kind of ok? or bad? If it runs well. Then it's possible you got a defective cat.

Oh and overall my experiences with them have been good. Especially since the government made all catalytic converter producers go to better standards.

the car runs great, the old dual cat system was fine but it has 160,000 miles on it, i just wanted to update the whole exhaust system. i upgraded the rest of the system with 3 inch pipe and a 3 inch in and dual 2 1/2 inch out magnaflow muffler. my next step is to add a set of dyno don header.

Oh okay. I didnt even realize the engine is in a 77 bird....sweet...so do you have to smog it? I wouldnt even run cats if I had that option...

the cat set up is on my 89 GTA, my 77 does have a tune port out of a 91 T/A.
