Custom exhaust pricing

Hey all, I am new here and have a quick question. I am looking at purchasing an '89 firebird with a rebuilt 350 in it; the only thing it needs left is an exhaust. It has open headers as it is, and the seller has all of the pipes for the exhaust, they just need to be cut and welded since the angles don't match the 350 headers. He said that his friend that worked a muffler shop quoted him $250 just to have the pipes cut and welded in place, but from what I've read on other sites, that seems a little steep. Roughly how much do you think it should cost to have the pipes cut and welded?

One more thing... he also said that I would not be able to drive the car home, or to the muffler shop since it'd be too loud and I'd get pulled over, but again, I've read on other sites of people who run open headers and don't have trouble. I figured that if I kept the revs low enough, it should be fine, but I could be mistaken.

Sorry for the long post!!

Thanks in advance,
Peter

For headers back thats a perfectly acceptable price. Depending on what your dealing with that might be a great price, and third gens will always have a high pricetag for exhaust. But if you pay someone to do it cheap and they screw up, don't expect the price to stay the same.

However do understand the highest price isn't always the best work either.
