Headers and exhaust What is the benefit?

The 85 Z28 (350 TPI/Auto) I just bought has a set of headers (not sure about the brand) that run to a Y then single pipe (no cat) to stock muffler. Is this an efficient system? Should real dual pipes run to two mufflers in back? Is that the best for performance?

You have plenty of breathing capability there. Running to a single collector pipe off the y or x pipe is best due to our inherent space/ground clearance limitatations. Enjoy and be thankful the headers are there

Thanks for your input! I'm new to the 3rd gen cars and have a lot to learn. This is a good site for info, but it is hard to get answers to dumb newbie questions. But us newbies are the fuure of the restoratation and continuation of some really nice cars. Thanks again.
