Hooker 2460 and LT1 ???

While doing some investigating I've found a conflict with my LT1 motor swap. I had simply planned on using the exhaust system that I already had installed on the car but now I'm not sure it will be possible.

The Headers I've got a Hooker 2460 that has a 1 5/8" round port and the LT1 head ports are a "D' port.

I found a thread from a member that's used this header on an LT1 and he said something about a problem with the raised port mating area of this header..... that he had to grind this raised 'lip' off ( or something like that ) to make a better fit. ( I will be writing to him directly in the near futrure for better details. )

Many people seem agree that running a 1/58 Primary "O" port header is not a problem with a "D" port LT1 head. My question is this: WHAT GASKET should be used ??? Should it be for a "D" port head ?? Should it be for a "O" port header ?? I am expecting to use a high quality gasket,...... Probably copper.

Thanx for the input !

I used a round port that matches the headers, no leaks here.

My 2055 are 1 5/8 if that matters.

I had to take a small power sander to the flange side of my 2460's. Wasn't completely flat from the factory. I used good felpro round port header gaskets and then thick aluminum gaskets on the outlets that go to the y-pipe.

Firebat - Your the guy I mentioned earlier. I think you were the only person that had claimed to run these headers on an LT1 so far. Here's a picture of the Header-Head mating surface,.......... it's FAR from flat. This is whay I am concerned about the type of gasket ( "O" port or "D" port ) that should be used. ( I'm guessing an "O" to best match the header opening. )

Are you saying that you sanded those "lips" flush to make a completly flat surface ??

Edit:

Have not set the headers to the engine yet - but thanx for the 'heads-up" !

I have the 2460's and I completely grinded them down flat and used an O. Just my 2 cents.

I don't think mine has those lips. I bought mine around 2005 though, so Hooker may be making them different now or I can't remember. I would grind them down and sand them flat like mentioned above because that would make the gasket more effective for the LT1 heads.

Re: Hooker 2460 and LT1 ???

My ceramic 2460's in that pic were originally purchased from Summit back in the Spring of 2003.

I'm VERY hesitant to grind the lips from these headers. They are perfectly good headers for earlier heads and I'm not sure I want to risk screwing them up on the chance they "might" work on the LT1 motor.

Well you could do what we did with my friends camaro. We cut semi circle washers that were as thick as the lip and tacked them on around the holes for the bolts. Reason for this is is to help prevent any bending of the header plate when tightening the bolt. Worked perfectly with no leaks.
