I'm on a mission to rebuild me my very first vortec 350 and I bought some hooker headers 2460's. I was about to buy the 16767hkr "y" pipe but learned that it is only 2.5in when I want 3" all the way to the back where I have a muffler with dual 2.5in chrome tips. I have a 2.5 catalytic converter already gutted. As far in NC the sniffer test is for 96 and up vehicles. the CAT is supposed to be in place but no one checks for it. does anyone know what it would cost to make a 3" y pipe at a muffler shop? or maybe true duals OOOHHh!!!? and is there a particular kind of exhaust gasket that goes with these headers or does any gasket work with them?

Dont know anything about New York but down here a true duel setup runs between $400-500. And I had a y-pipe made for my car for $125.

You will have a hard time finding many shops that do a good job with 3". I had that problem when I had the exhaust done on my s10. The one shop that could bend it gave it the crinkle bends.
I would just use regular felpro manifold gaskets with a thin layer of red rtv on the header side.
Also, You really dont need anything larger then a single mandrel bent 3" system. 2.5" into 3" at the Y will be plenty.
If you try to get a shop to do it, ask for references or pictures of work. Ive seen some shops that cant do anything decent when it comes to being custom Y-pipes. Ask around. I hope this helps some.

Re: rookie "?'s"
thx man! does anyone sell 3" inlet and 3" outlet catalytic converter? will my 2.5in CAT hurt performance that much (gutted)? what about my 2.5 inlet and dual 3 in. muffler (vforce muffler)?
