True Dual Exhaust

(Rookie Q&A) Will it help my exhaust or HP if I went to "True Duals" meaning both headers having their own cat and muffler no Y collecter? I know both pipe have to go around the driver side floor panels but is all this work worth it on my '84 Z28.

I have something similar to that on my V6,It was there beforeI bought the car. It makes my V6 sound MEAN,even without a flowmaster. Its supposed to add like 6 or something HP. I dont know for sure.

'89 RS 2.8MPFI 34k Miles, JET CPU upgrade,3" Custom pipes,Custom Exhuast and Intake manifolds,Drilled Airbox, and since the car was raced before I had it,it has several other mods that I am continuing to find out about. My RS put out roughly 170 horsepower.

Go with a single 3 inch cat back style exhast and save all the headaches and cost of the true duals. The single 3inch will support the Horsepower you'll be running.

Yeah, this is an age old question that comes up about once a week, haha. But it basically boils down to the fact that a good 3" is plenty. If you're pushing like 500 horses or something, then you can even go up to a single 4". It's basically not worth the trouble to put true duals on a 3rd gen.

I think I have only read one member of having true dual exhaust on his camaro. I think I remember him saying it was worth the head ache.

Does anyone know why chevy designed the camaro exhaust to only be routed under the passenger side? I have been told that if you do run True dual exhaust that it is extremeley easy to scrape the exhaust while going over rises in the road.

any comments, or costs, or tips, I love the sound of true dual exhaust, the Y into 3 inch pipe into one muffler into two tale pipes just doesn't sound the same. But I will always love camaros either way.

A true dual 2 1/2 exhaust will make more power than a single 3 inch pipe Ive went from single to dual on two mustangs and there was a huge difference.People are going to say differently because thinking that it wont ,gives them an excuse not to do it.The singe exhaust wasnt run because it makes more power ,it was run because it takes up less space ,the panhard bar is in the way ,and it cheap.Yeah a 3 inch pipe will support some horspower but I will bet anyone here that matched up against a 2 1/2 inch dual system it will come in second every time.

From the cat to the tips my car has true duals. Basically it's two pipes from the cat going into 2 mufflers. It was stock on the car, which is unusual. I'm not sure about any power gain, but it does sound a lot better than other stock third-gens. (It also looks sweet with two clouds of white smoke on cold mornings..
