Heatshield under passenger floor necessary?

Okay, my car has Dyno don headers and dual y pipe, to a magnaflow y connector and then to magnaflow catback.
It seems to me that the exhaust is hitting the heatshield where it bends from the section under the passenger footwell, to the driveshaft tunnel.

I was curious what problems removing this heatshield would cause. Since the car has no cats anymore, their isn't as much heat generated at that point, but I wasn't sure if the shield is still necessary. My main question is, if I remove it, will I start smelling melting carpet and whatnot?

Any feedback would be appreciated, thank you

Re: Heatshield under passenger floor necessary?

My photos are currently uploading, but if the heat shielding is necessary, I was curious if adhesive thermal reflective tape would be a viable solution?

or putting header tape around the exhaust through that particular section.

Thank you Tom!

Re: Heatshield under passenger floor necessary?

im going to catch hell for this but ill say it anyway, IMO, heat shields are not necessary, the cab may get alittle warmer and you might have some hot spots on the floors but all should be fine. I WOULD however use them if you have fuel lines close to exhaust pipes or anything else thats a potential fire hazard. I dont run any and one of the hottest areas / most potentially dangerous areas where there should be one, there isnt, and thats between my borla muffler and 4th gen Plastic tank (only a 3inch gap between the two), havent had any issues with heat/melting/fire, in fact, ive welded all underneath my car, even next to the tank and im still here, writing this and my cars parked outside uncharred

Re: Heatshield under passenger floor necessary?

I'd say not, I didn't even know there was supposed to be a heat shield. Previous owner put a cherry bomb where the cat goes and I've swapped that for a muffled that's nearly touching the floor there and havn't had any carpet melting or to speak of lol

Re: Heatshield under passenger floor necessary?

When my car was all stock, I melted the carpet from extended idling at a car cruise..
I'd say if you have stock restrictive manifolds, cats and muffler leave your shields inplace.
Once you step up to no cats and a freeflow sytem Id say you could ditch them.
I have removed the pass floor setup but the over the axle and muffler parts remain..
