Magnaflow 49 state cat converter on a California Car?

I recently purchased a 1984 Recaro T/A from California, brought it home to Illinois and I was going to install a 49 state cat converter from Magnaflow. Will this throw engine codes since the car's computer is set up to sense CA emission parameters? If so, can the computer be re-programmed? How?

No after cat O2 sensors on these car like the newer OBD2 systems. So, the the cat is not monitored. Should not cause any codes.

Re: Magnaflow 49 state cat converter on a California Car?

I've never seen any difference in computer programming between a California thirdgen and a federal thirdgen. The carbureted early thirdgens might be different, but the fuel injected ones are all the same. I think the CA vs Federal emissions thing was in the 70's, and by the 80's, the engines were the same.

That said, no you will not have any problems changing the cat on your car. Thank you for doing the responsible thing and keeping a catalytic converter on your car.
