custom exhaust question

looking to do my first custom exhaust on my 89 camaro and was wondering if going over the rear axle is the only option, anyone experience doing a different layout for the pipes leading to the back?

Re: custom exhaust question

Kinda confused by your question. How far back do you want them to go? Mine end about 2 feet before the axle. The pipes don't have to go over.

Re: custom exhaust question

Only real other option is ending before the axle. But for a stock 305 I'd just buy a catback and be done with it. Eliminating the cat may free up a few hp, though I don't know if you'd really feel it.

Plus it's illegal on a car that's "ONLY" 23 years old. Get a 3" cat back (I got the dynomax system and I'm really happy with it), and if you're set on doing the whole exhaust, get some hooker 2055 or 2046 headers, accompanying Y-pipe, and a hi flow cat.

Technically illegal yes, but he is from Orlando Florida as am I and we have no testing of any kind here. I have no cats either. Here you can register, insure, and drive anything with wheels. There is no visual or emmisions inspections.
