Exhaust possibilities

I am about to get mufflers put on my car, and I would like to get a couple sugestions before I make a decision. Right now the police head to my house as soon as I crank it, and I am not even running a cam or headers. It is a big block 454 and I don't think the 80 single 2.5 80 series will allow it to flow enough, plus they don't sound that good to me. I already have a set of 40 series but I don't want to use them due to ground clearance issues and,I was looking at dynomax bullets, or moroso spiral flows because they will allow it to breath without risking clearance. I want something that will sound agreesive and I don't care about droning that much or loudness as long as they don't cause backpressure or alert the cops as much as I do now. Any sugestion for this or other mufflers?

Well I am building my own true duel 2.5" for my 83 B.B. as we speak. Running through two 3" tubular mufflers I had laying around. This is a lot of work, you need the right tools and patients and not for the faint of heart.

WOW, the cops are that bad around you? my car is loud and my Harley is even louder and I have never had an issue. There are alot of loud cars, trucks and bikes around where I live. The bullet muffler are loud-knda like pricy glass pack's really. What type of exhaust are you running now?

Re: Exhaust possibilities

Well right now I'm not using anything, and the police here in Florida are pretty strict. I have a lot of possibilities because I already have the 80 series, but I haven't got them hooked up yet, I have a set of original 40 series i had put on my chevy and I cut them off before i pulled the engine and sold it. I would like to run true duals and that is why I was looking at the round flow through mufflers, because i don't want to lose ground clearance and that is why I was most likely gonna use the 80 series even though I am not a fan of them.

Re: Exhaust possibilities

I am putting a few extra flanges in a few areas. For example a section by the starter can be removed for easy starter repair. The only place for my X pipe will be right before the tubular mufflers. I am also rapping the pipes with the high temperature exhaust rap.

Re: Exhaust possibilities

you can sledge hammer up the rear seat pans and make plenty of room for a pair of regular mufflers. I'd also suggest moving the fuel filter back to a different spot.

i have stock height springs out back with true duals and have decent ground clearance. Good enough for a daily driven car... and yes, plenty of room for an X pipe.

I would honestly rather do that because I like the way the 40 series sound. do you have any pictures and sound clips?

Re: Exhaust possibilities

Sure, i think these are in the sticky as well. I only needed 2.25" pipe since the engine is only around 350 HP. Mufflers are Aerochambers, pretty much the same size as FM 40's.

On the car (tack welded) left plenty of clearance for the torque arm.

Off the car, ended up a little lopsided but it fits and doesn't rattle.

Here is a ground clearance pic with stock V6 rear springs.

It's a V6 so i don't think you'll want a sound clip of it.. haha

Re: Exhaust possibilities

I've been using Aerochambers for several years on different cars/trucks. Always been happy with them.

I have TD's on my daily driver ('03 Avalanche Z71, Stock 5.3) with a pair of them and get lots of compliments. It's quiet and doesn't drone on the highway, idle is pretty quiet but WOT is loud and mean.

Check out Youtube, there should be some V8 clips
