Man is this too cheap to pass up?

I need some sort of cheap exhaust system for my convertible and man I think I found it.

http://pacesetterexhaust.com/86-92-c...st-system.aspx

Does anyone have a pacesetter catback system?

Re: Man is this too cheap to pass up?

I'm a lil confused, is it the complete exhaust, muffler and tips included? For a 100$ thats not a bad deal at all.

Re: Man is this too cheap to pass up?

From what the description reads that is a catback system. I guess they are discontinuing the line, and selling bottom dollar.

Its $125 to my door brand new... I think I have to jump on this.

That makes two of us. How can one apparent cat-back system fit single AND dual cat cars?

EDIT: The answer is it doesn't.
86-92 Chevrolet Camaro / Pontiac Firebird 305,350ci. Engine Codes G,F,7 Only

What, no VIN code 8? Makes you wonder why they include 350s in the description, then take them right back out.

Re: Man is this too cheap to pass up?

From the description looks like just a catback. So piping from back of the cat to the tips.

According to this they may only have 2 left in stock. http://pacesetterexhaust.com/inventory.aspx

Not the exact product but I imagine it would be something like this:

Well dual cat cars merge back into one pipe. I don't know if they are different sizes but maybe they include an adapter.

Yes, they merge into one pipe, but every cat back system I've ever seen has made a distinction. At any rate, they say that it doesn't fit VIN code 8 so I guess that explains it. I could use a nice cat-back system since my long pipe has a hole in it. The rest of my original exhaust system is in pretty good shape.

Dude your welcome! I actually found this through a craigslist add. Kinda surprised me it was real deal. Yeah mine was $123.02 to my door. I was gonna pay almost that much just for a new main pipe to piece my donor car system together.

Re: Man is this too cheap to pass up?

Looks like it doesn't matter any more.

This item is reduced in price because it is a discontinued product. It is only available at this price while supplies last.
Out of stock

Well I'm really glad I didn't think too much on this and just ordered it. I will post a couple pics when it get on. Five7kid had this same kit at one point and told me it was a quality set up, but he did not like the muffler was a 2.5" inlet and used a reducer from the 3" pipe to the muffler. For my vert this will be way better than the cobbled up muffler and stuff I have now

Wish they had more in stock for everyone else.

That's not quite the same one either. The other one was 2815 model that didn't fit the VIN code 8 cars. I'm sure it's pretty close, just a different fitment.

The "chrome plated stainless" tips are a little cheesy in the clamp area. Would have like to see a stainless band clamp, but for $98 I'm not bitching. Probably won't run the tip.

haha, YOUR ON! jk, I could probably get it on there tonight, but im too lazy, I have tomorrow off from school so I'll probably throw it on then, and yea I'm gonna have to use them because the original piping on the car is trashed. Where the pipe bends for the tips it has probably like a 3x2 inch hole on both sides so I cant reuse the stock tips.

btw, your box looks nice, mine looked like it had been dragged all the way from AZ to WA. One end was open with the tips peeking out and at about the middle of the box it looked like chuck norris had roundhouse kicked it and they patched it with packing tape, lol

Re: Man is this too cheap to pass up?

Well I got it on last night after changing my fuel pump... found a major problem for my car. My car uses ball and socket type flange from the pipe to converter. The kit has a cast four bolt rectangular flange and gaskets... doesn't fit. I'm gonna get to go to the muffler shop and have them swap on a new flange.
I have pics, but can't get them from my phone

yeah already drove around in it, haven't gone HAM on them yet, but they seem to slow the car down faster then the old delcos did.

Ok here are pics of the flange that is gonna have to get cut off!

I wired them up so that I could drive the whole thing to the exhaust shop and have then weld the new ball & sock flange on, and weld the pipes together.

Pacesetter is not very good stuff, but for the price you guys paid it's just fine. They tend to rust out fast, but I doubt you guys drive the cars in the winter so all should be fine for awhile. My car also has the ball and flang like yours. Not sure I have seen one that has the 4 bolt flang like that.

I'm going to stick with my 17 year old SLP stainless steel cat back system. I think it will last a bit longer

For the price it was perfect for what I needed. Cheaper than replacing my main pipe and having it welded in. Five7kid had this system and he thought the quality was high when he used it. He has since chopped it up with his LS swap and changing mufflers etc, but says the main pipe is still in excellent condition in 10+ years.

I would too! But your SLP system couldn't be bought used for $98. This was a bargain even with having to weld a new flange on.

The price was the key with this set-up.

I still have the factory exhaust, but it has a small hole in the straight pipe. A couple of years ago on CL, somebody had a Borla SS system NIB for $200. My wife was laid off so.....

Re: Man is this too cheap to pass up?

the flange is the only difference between the 2815 and the 2816, so that is the only thing keeping this from going on an l98 car, and I believe the2815 was for 1985-1989 305 cars, so thats also why it wouldn't fit your car BADNBLACK

Yeah for $98 bucks who cares-it's cheaper than a hack muffler shop would do and fits better i'm sure. So how does it sound?

It sound ok. Much better, but not as good as my Hooker Aero-chamber on the 91. Its not too loud which is nice since with the top down you can really listen to it

I took sound clips of the old one... I need to take a sound clip of the new system and post them.

I know about loud LOL! Right now all I have is a 2.5" 24" long glasspack where the cat was with about a 12" spout. It exit's about half way back in the center of the car. I always have the tops off, but when it's cool and I have the windows up it's not too loud, but when the windows are down it gets loud when you get on it. At some point i'm going to do a full exhaust, but for the time being this set up will work. Most people like the sound of it and so far the Cops have not had an issue.

When I got the car in the spring I thought just the muffler was shot, but once I got under there the mid pipe had holes in it, then when I went to remove it I seen the cat was all broken inside. Then the fuel pump went out and it needed other stuff to run good so all my exhaust money went to getting the car running good. Also the cat did not want to come off so we had to cut it off and my buddy that was running the sawzal kinda hacked up the Y-pipe so yeah. I think at some point i'm going to have the getted stock cat welded back on and then hang a cat back ot put one together.
