How much can Hooker 2055's be opened up?

Hey,

From what I've read and the pictures I have seen, the opening of Hooker 2055 headers seem to be the exact same diameter as the stock manifolds?

If that is indeed true, how much do the Hookers need be opened up?

I have yet to install my set of Hooker headers/Y-Pipe and I want to make darn sure that they are used to their full potential before I put them on.

Does anyone have a measurement of the diameter the flanges need to be opened up to in order to really make these headers shine?

Thanks

Ok, here is what you do, and it will probably take the better part of a Saturday to do it right.

Put the headers on the car and hook up the Y-pipe. Run the car, duration varies, but at least 5-10 minutes. Pull the headers and Y-pipe from the car. Where the Y-pipe meets the ball-flange on the headers it will create a carbon ring. You can cut the hole on the header ball-flange back that far and it will still seal. I've read on here where that opens them up to 2 1/2" each or near to it. Either way, it's larger than what they come with and should do for you.

That's a really good idea, the set I have are used and upon closer inspection there are in fact rings around the ball-flange part... The only thing is that they are kind of angled a certain way, instead of being perfectly center with the hole...

Could be how it was installed or a small defect in the angle it bolts up. Just use your dremmel and cut the flange flat to get the biggest opening. Just make sure you don't cut the flange back "above" the ring mark or it won't seal.

Imo, I would clean the ball flanges up and install everything on the car to check where you can cut as Ozz1967 describes. I wouldn't trust the rings that are currently there. There's no guarantee they'll bolt on exactly the same way on your car as they did before.

Good luck!

I went to 2.25" on mine with what looked like some more room to cut. Out the box they were 1.9-1.94"
