hookers coated or non

well im taking a ride next week to summit racing to get hooker headers and the Y pipe i have decided i want. On my old 4th gen i went ceramic coated. But for maybe the 1500 miles if that a year i put on and isnt driven in snow or hardly any rain is it really worth me getting the ceramic coated? The car does sit outside in the summer months though. Would like to hear from people with non coated headers with there experiences. Thank you!

My hooker 2055 are coated, I kind of think of it as insurance in my investment. Not to mention that it keeps the engine bay a lot cooler, which keeps a lot of other parts happy.

Re: hookers coated or non

While the coating does protect the headers from rust externally, the main purpose of ceramic coating is to keep underhood temps down by insulating the exhaust tubes.

Hotter gas moves faster also, which probably has a small gain in scavenging too. Probably not enough to actually measure on a dyno though.

The main benefit is lower under-hood temps which is better for the rest of your components and much nicer when you have to do engine work on the car after its been driven.

High-Temp exhaust paint works very well, so I'd give it a shot.

It gets a bad rep because people regularly misuse the product. The headers have to be blasted clean, and the paint needs to be cured properly.

Most people paint over rust, and just slap them on the engine without curing. Then ,of course, it starts to peel and we end up with 'This header paint sucks.' threads.

I used some VHT Flame proof header paint on my XJ Cherokee and it's been awesome. No problems, discoloration, or peeling.

hey thanks! ya i was worried about temp as i also have a hawks ram air II hood that has no insulation etc. Didnt want to ruin that or the paint on it. But on the same note it does let a lot more in and out over a stock hood.

I have uncoated headers on my Firebird. It is not driven in the winter and they are still rusting. Also the under hood temps get very hot. I will probably blast them and get them coated as soon as funds allow!
