305 tbi headers?

Hey looking into some shorties with Y pipe for my 91 firebird. Its got the 305 TBI. Just wondering what are some good ones i should look into. Not to familiar with 3rd gens. I would like to get rid of all emission etc but dont want the car to run bad because of taking it all off. Found some nice ceramic coated edelbrocks. Any help would be great! Thanks! forgot to mention it has a new 3" flowmaster cat back.

Re: 305 tbi headers?

Car want run bad by taking off the smog pump and the air tubes that clutter up the engine bay. Worst that'll happen is if you have emissions testing or the cops are ones to look under the hood and ticket you for modifying the emissions system you'd probably want to look for something that keeps the air tubes. Can't speak for a specific brand as I still have iron manifolds but look for thick flanges/tubing and make sure it has a bung for the o2 sensor. Also if you can afford it go for the ceramic coating, painted headers will rust in a week or so.

The headers in the link are the only shorty headers with 1 3/4" primaries. You can get with or without the air tubes. They are now being made from aluminum steel and are ceramic coated and can be ordered with a custom Y-pipe.

Re: 305 tbi headers?

i got the hooker shorty headers from jegs, i forgot the number but they're the ones with out the air tube connections. I love my hooker headers but i would go with the ceramic coated, i got the high temp paint but the paint they use is cheap and is gone after a month. I'm gonna repaint them with some good high temp paint

Also with a tbi can i delete the o2's or do they need to stay? thanks also theres a metal tube right before the cat. I think its part of pollution system. anyway its in bad shape. Can that be thrown away also with getting headers?. Btw its a 91 firebird.

Re: 305 tbi headers?

you will need the O2 , and may need to install a bung for it . not a big deal , i installed mine on the Y pipe . just about 3" below the lt. side connection . good luck .

Yep its part of the smog pump. If you have to keep the converter to pass emissions just cut it off close to the converter then pinch the converter end flat and seal it up with some welding. If you don't have to keep the converter just get rid of it, when they get old they'll clog up plus the exhaust sounds better without it.
