EGR stem rusted onto manifold! Help.
EGR stem rusted onto manifold! Help.
I am trying to get the rest of the EGR stuff off of the car. I cant remove the stem that connects to the pass side manifold off becasue the two nuts holding it on are rusted terribly bad. I hate taking the car into shops. Is there anything I can do? I have a hacksaw? Can I cut it and epoxy the hole up? JB weld some sockets on the nuts? will a muffler shop cut it off and weld it up for me? Or is that gonna be illegal for them to do?

Depends on your local state law on your emissions. Depending on where I go in N.Y. certain garages will not pass my car because I removed all emissions (Air Pump, EGR, Cat, AIRE manifolds, Bypass pipes, ETC.)... And there are some that don't care about emissions because it is an 87 and only has to pass safety inspection.. There are EGR plates all over the internet that just bolt in its place once you remove it.

Dab the fastener with something like Kroil, or ATF (many say is as good as Kroil)
An automatic center-punch can be used to deliver focused shocks to small fasteners that would be destroyed by a more powerful tool.
