cutout exhaust gear issues

I have a 3" QTP electric cutout for my exhaust before the cat. I hit an superbly hidden and amazingly deep dip back in January which tore the motor right off. after a few months of putting it off I had the motor re welded to the mount and re wired it, as well as had the exhaust re positioned so the cutout is higher up. I finally Installed it back on, soldered the connections etc. and it worked for all of an hour and then would only begin to move and then stop entirely, this would happen every time I hit the switch either direction. Today I took it off, cut the wire and checked the gears which seemed to be hanging up somewhere. I took all the gears out, cleaned them, greased them like crazy, and put it together. Did a quick 2 mile test run and it worked for roughly a mile before they started freezing again. I'm not wanting to pull it out again and restart as this took a lot of time out of my day, but I will if I have to. Has anyone had a similar issue or have any suggestions for a fix? I can't send it back to QTP because it was ripped off and that's a void of warranty. I would hope to fix this instead of buying a replacement motor.

Re: cutout exhaust gear issues

Never mind, I rebuilt the motor again and repacked it with white lithium grease and it's working smoother and quieter than ever before. Must have had something stuck in the old grease I missed before.

That's what I was going to suggest. That and to check your connections. If the motor doesn't have a good connection they seem to work when they want to.

Glad you got it working!

My connections were solid but thanks haha, If there is one thing my dad taught me it was to always make sure you solder wires so that the solder lasts longer than the wires, I got so sick of re doing it that I did water tight connections that will unplug if needed and then heat tubing around them with a tape wrap to be super safe.
This was a learning experience though as I have never repacked gears before, but I'm happy that I spent 2 days of cleaning and repacking with a $5 tube of grease rather then buy a $60 replacement motor and the possibility of it failing for a similar reason.
