Hedman Street Hedders 68460
I just installed these (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hed-68460) today, and let me tell you, what a pain...
Never installed headers, but I didn't think I was gonna have to do so much maneuvering.
Anyway, to anyone interested in buying these, they're at a good price, and they're sturdy in construction. Also, they may say they won't work with a manual transmission, but it installed just fine, all I had to do was alter the push rod to the throwout bearing. Just, the drivers side is a pain- the directions were "Remove spark plugs, insert header, tighten evenly". Well, had to undo the clutch linkage (Of course, not for a rig with it anyway), take off the oil filter, take off the distributor cap and jack the engine as high as I could, and I had to go from the bottom, which would've been nice to know 2 hours before I had the idea.
The passenger side wasn't too bad, didn't even have to jack it up, but putting the starter back on was a real pain, I'll tell you what... took half an hour, and I had to use a jack to keep it in place while I maneuvered it around- my arms were dead from trying to do it without a jack.
But, they fit nice when they're in, and now my 350's not gonna be choked up with those damned tiny 305's exhaust manifolds.
Any questions, let me know, I'll get you guys some pictures tomorrow.
Also, sorry for being gone so long, but I bet you guys didn't miss me too terribly much.

Glad you got them in. Long tubes are always a pain to install in these cars.

I still don't see why it says "For automatic transmissions only".

I *think* the slave cylinder on the clutch interferes in some way.

Well, I'd love to know if that really is the case.
Anyone out there actually have a problem like that?

Didn't get around to taking any pictures, but that's not really important.
I'm just happy I can check my oil easily...
You know, now that I have a dipstick tube.

Re: Hedman Street Hedders 68460
They say for automatics only due to the fact the slave cylinder and mounting flange for the slave cylinder are in the way. Ive modified several driver side long tube headers for third gens to fit t-5 equipped vehicles. as for being a pain in the azz to install i disagree. All installs were smooth for me.

Re: Hedman Street Hedders 68460
Longtube if you can, shorties if you can't.
That 350 had a rod knock, so it's out, finished putting the new engine in exactly a week ago.
Here's how it sounds now: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1617.../?stream_ref=2
Now, the exhuast is gonna be a really big pain.
Long story short, to keep it, you know, on point of having long tubes, I carried them straight through the tranny crossmember, and modified the crossmember with a couple of hunks of pipe in place of where the pipes would go through; then they both go up over the rear end in the stock location, and come out the back.
Not easy at all. If I had to do another on a semi-hotrod car, I'd go with mid-lenth headers and run a big Y pipe.

You don't have to worry about the whole "slave cylinder" thing, as long as you still have the mechanical linkage clutch like me.

I wish I could help you, but I just ran duals out the back, instead. Just get one made, if nothing else, but they're so long, it'd be a pretty big pain.
