CA Smog | Going legit?

I smoged my car last year when I acquired it even though the catalytic converter was hollowed out it passed.Took it to a magical place. Now my tags are up this March and need to re smog my 92 Rs Tbi 5.0L camaro. The smog shop fee increased almost %100.00 percent since last year.

My car currently puffs white smoke each time I'm at a red light this is the main reason why I want to add all the emission stuff back. It's making me think if I want to keep my Camaro for a long time I should go legit right? Since these type of places will all ways going to increase their fee.

In the long run it will be much less headache to go ligit.

However, it sounds like you have a bigger issue with the smoke.

I can't think of any place in the country that will even test your emissions if you are blowing smoke-automatic fail

Re: CA Smog | Going legit?

A few months ago it didn't smoke. I reused old oil and old spark plugs. I messed with the timing a bit. Going to do a tune up and see if that help. I just saw a carb approved catalytic converter for $170.

I think in CA now only a licensed installer can install cats legally and with a bunch of paperwork too. ???

Re: CA Smog | Going legit?

Hopefully they don't ask to much to install it. If they do I will just get the direct bolt on.

Zenish: I was thinking the same.

Im certain that your valve stem seals have Hardened and this causes the symptoms yall are speaking of. Its a cheap fix if you know how to do it on the car. Ive done it a few times. look into it....

Re: CA Smog | Going legit?

I originally was running some Amsoil Z-ROD for a couple of weeks. I took it out in order to add cheaper oil and some sea foam product. No reason to throw away money.
