New muffler Vs. straight pipe 3.1L

I have a '92 camaro with the 3.1L. I want to get a better sound out of my car. I want to straight pipe my car by installing a cutout so I can choose when i want to be loud and obnoxious or close it, but my dad is advising against it. Would it be better to get a different muffler instead? Would it give a better sound for the money it would cost?

A straight pipe on a V6 is going to sound bad, like...real bad. It will sound like a V6 with a straight pipe. You're better off getting a decent muffler or exhause system, that will make it sound loads better.

just my .02

Thrush turbo mufflers sound good on 6-cylinders.

Don't straight pipe it. Listen to your dad. All depends how loud you want it but use a muffler and something other than a cherry bomb.

I like the dynomax turbo mufflers or borla on V6s

Re: New muffler Vs. straight pipe 3.1L

I'll go against the grain here and say, I actually think that the 3.1 sounds good straight piped or with a cherrybomb on it. But it would be obnoxious to have it like that all the time as I have a resonator and a super turbo(that's all I remember the guy at the shop saying) muffler and it sounds great and is fairly quiet as well) but you could do like I am thinking about doing and putting on an electric cutout before the muffler and resonator if you insist on wanting it to be loud every now and then, because you can open and close it as you feel.
