Straight Pipe

I have an '84 camaro z28 that im looking to straight pipe. If i take my cat(catalytic converter) off and either empty it and put a pipe throught it or just take it off and put the outer cover on a pipe, will my check engine light come on? need to know as soon as possible

My cat has a line running from it to somewhere in the engine bay, do you know what that is?

Cut it... It's part of the smog system. I think it runs to the air pump

It's only a problem on cars that have secondary O2 sensors behind the cats that check for converter efficiency (OBDII cars)
