thermostatic air cleaner?

Car wouldn't pass smog after my mechanic installed my hooker header 2055s. So the smog technician said I need a thermostatic air cleaner, any ideas on where I can buy one?

And isn't it false advertisement because on jeggs it says that the headers are 50state smog legal?

Re: thermostatic air cleaner?

It's your factory air cleaner. They want to see that pre heater hose going from the exhaust manifold to the air cleaner. I had to buy an adapter to the headers so mine would pass.

Re: thermostatic air cleaner?

Summit racing. It's called a heat stove. Jegs may have it. The one I bought is not a two piece but a single piece that is just clamped onto the header so it can later be removed. I just checked the site and it says Edelbrock is discontinuing. I'll post a pic of the part if my ipad lets me. Maybe a shop can make one out of some stainless exhaust pipe or cut one off a wrecking yard exhaust manifold from another third gen or other car that will fit the hose.

If your headers are non coated, just take it to a competent exhaust shop, show them the above picture, explain that you need a heat tube and they can fab you up something. I added it to my old G20 by sectioning part of a short section of pipe and spot welding it over one of the header tubes. The revised heat source actually warmed up more quickly than the stock manifold/heatshield setup.
