Need Help What Am I doing Wrong????

This is what I got from the store.

I hope I’m in the right forum, while inspecting under my carI noticed that the sensor on the passenger side exhaust was not hooks up. Ifigured it is the o2 sensor so I rush off to the store a got a new one in hopes it willsolve rough idle problem. But back to the point, when I tried to hook the newsensor up it did not fit into the only plug that was hanging down. The sensor has around end and plug has a oval end.

What am I doing wrong?

I’m I asking for the wrong part?

Has the car be modified from stock?

Or I’m I trying to connect it to the wrong spot?

Vee-Six O2 sensors are in the passenger side exhaust manifold.

I believe that all one-wire GM O2 sensors have a round connector. You're probably trying to hook up the sensor to the wrong connector.

Like others have said, photos of what you have in the car now would help.

Re: Need Help What Am I doing Wrong????

thanks for the input, now I have a bigger problem, the bracket for the power steering pump broke into pieces when I was moving the car to jack it up to get the pictures. I thought it would be as easy as ordering it from rockauto but I quickly finding out that bracket is a hard one to locate.

Your local junkyard will be best bet for the bracket.

Re: Need Help What Am I doing Wrong????

**UPDATE**
I got a new bracket from a member on here good price I might add. When I went back to figure out the o2 sensor wiring for the life of me I could'nt find the wire it connects to. After doing alot of looking under the car I found three cut wires. Purple, Green and White/Black wires tucked away on top of the transmission. I do not know what these wires go to. I looked online at the wire charts for my car and still have no idea what these wires are for. Any ideas what was on the end of these wires?

I going to upload the pictures soon as my phone charge up.

Not sure about the first picture, but the plug in your second picture on my car goes to the knock sensor or the fan temperature sensor. Both have the same connector on the passenger side. Look for a sensor like the picture I attached.

Re: Need Help What Am I doing Wrong????

The O2 sensor wire is purple in GM cars; not impossible that the cut purple wire you have, should be the one for that.

Blk w wht stripe in GM cars is one of the ECM ground connections that goes to various things.

There's LOTS of green wires; hard to say for sure what that one might be. I've never even seen a 6-cyl in one of these cars so I haven't the slightest clue where any of the parts on it would be.

The other cut wire in the pic looks like light blue. Might be the knock sensor, in which case it should have a plug that looks like the one in the other pic. Although IIRC the knock sensor is dark blue.

The connector in the 2nd pic would have a blue wire if it's the knock sensor, or grn w wht stripe if it's the fan switch, if memory serves. Can't tell in the pic what it is.

Re: Need Help What Am I doing Wrong????

Thanks for all the feedback. I ordered the o2 plug and is going to hook up to the purple wire and see what happens. After doing some research on here many threads says the 2.8 v6 do not have an knock sensor so I take it that it is the fan temp plug.

Re: Need Help What Am I doing Wrong????

**UPDATE** I finally address the mystery purple wire under my car. Connect and o2 sensor up to it and run alot better plus it do not reek of gas when it's running.
