Valve Cover has no hole for the Breather Tube
Valve Cover has no hole for the Breather Tube
Hey guys, I'm a 22 yr old college student and much to my own disappointment, my dad has no interest in fixing vehicles, so I have no support other than myself.
I have an 87 trans am that has multiple problems but right now I'm focused on this specific issue. When I bought the car the previous owner gave me valve covers and gaskets to replace, but when I switched them the breather tube running from the air intake to the passenger side valve cover had no hole to go to. I'm guessing he gave me the wrong ones? Does anyone have a product number I could throw at my parts guy? I also only need to switch the passenger side one, if that helps. I'll be able to post pictures soon. Also, is it a possibility to simply drill a whole in the cover I have already?

Re: Valve Cover has no hole for the Breather Tube
this isn't an exhaust question, should really be in the engine section..
but yeah, you need a different valve cover. you should have center bolt valve covers, so finding one in a junkyard should be as easy as popping the hood of every 87-97 Camaro or Firebird, 87-99 full size pickup/full size van or 87-96 Caprice and finding one that will work for you.. if your current one doesn't have a hole in it at all, then it's probably from a 94-96 Caprice since the passenger side cover on those didn't have a hole in them, but it might also be a 93-97 F body one. i don't know if them had holes in them or not...

I'll be looking around for one that fits. So centerbolt valve covers are the type that I need right?
Thanks again
Re: Valve Cover has no hole for the Breather Tube
Post a picture and we'll be able to tell you easily. However, it's pretty easy to tell the difference between perimeter and center bolt valve covers.
With perimeter bolt valve covers the bolts are along the ouside rail.

With the center bolt they run right down the center.
